Last week I got a new vehicle. A Subaru Outback Limited.

I researched different SUV vehicles and the Outback had everything that I was looking for.
I wanted a good AWD system with decent ground clearance , good gas mileage, decent room, and comfort.

I checked out other SUV's but they all failed my standards in one way or another.
Most failed in the AWD category. The Mazda SUV's did get a serious look. The AWD system is pretty decent and cargo volume is comparable to the Outback. It lost because the cargo area is shorter.....it has similar volume, but not as much rear floor area. It also had 19 inch wheels, that was a turn off. It also had a smaller fuel tank compared to the Outback. The Outback will go over 500 miles on a tank of gas on the highway.

Here it is:

I don't know anyone who has made that choice who has regretted it.

We love our Ford Escape and Edge...but we buy used and Subie's hold their value to well to make the cut. And my wife hated the seats. Good for you, bad for us, they are great cars.

Did you get the 6 or 4? I almost bought the same color with the 6 in December, but ended up buying the AWD Highlander instead.

Doug, I bought the 4 cyl for the fuel economy. 32 on the highway and 28 combined driving.

I looked at Toyotas but their AWD system didn't make the cut. They have a reactive AWD system. It's FWD until it detects the front tires slipping, then it engages the rear wheels. The wife of one of my co-workers has a new decked out Highlander. I did like the interior and I really like the cargo space but I really don't need 3 rows of seats.

I looked at the Highlander and the 4 Runner, chose the 4 Runner for the 4wd as opposed to the AWD.I liked the interior and ride on both, but felt the selectable 4 wd was a better choice. The high ground clearance of the 4 Runner is nice, too. Not that I do any real off roading but some of the dirt roads I end up on with my dogs require it.

Brian the 4cyl is fine plenty of power. The AWD in Subaru’s are incredible. It gets through the snow easily and keeping the car in the direction it’s going. We took ours to Maine 8hr drive and very comfortable. Enjoy Brian!

Nice ride Brian. a friend of mine has one the same color a couple of years old. Only bad Subaru experience I know of is another close friend who inherited his mother's Outback when she passed. She bought it new and only put 30K miles on it. At about 86K he started getting some slip in the tranny. Took it to the dealer only to find out that NOBODY works on Subaru transmissions. They would only install a different one. Used if they could find on e on their nationwide network, which the dealer said usually took 4-6 weeks to find and did not come with any warranty at a cost of 4K$ or a new on from the factory at nearly 8K$. He was lucky enough to find a buyer through Craigslist who was willing to take it on despite it's troubles. I'm sure it's an isolated case and have certainly not heard bad things of Subes. Good driving, happy times, now go catch fish!!! lol
