I thought I'd echo this:

What are the smallest Flies you have successfully tied and caught fish with? Asking for a close friend.

With:

What are the largest flies you have successfully tied and caught fish with? Asking for a close friend.

I can go to 8/0 hooks and about 14". Without articulation.

I tie a ton on 5/0 and 4/0 to chase Esox on 8 wt. rods, I'll post some pics by the end of the weekend.

Back when my younger brother was alive, we fished for stripers in Plymouth Bay very year. We got down to only using chartreuse/white Deceivers I tied on 3/0 hooks. I haven't fished for stripers or tied flies that big for years.

The largest I've tied are monster Clousers for stripers. Very plain, very heavy and hurt like hell if you bust yourself in the back of the head with them.

That's about what I expected.

...Ive had that same experience with big Clousers, Colston. So I looked at what I was doing and decided a Clouser that big wasn't doing anything I needed to do with a fly rod and went back to jigs with that kind of work.

I have never tied truly big flies. I think my largest was probably a #6 Gartside Gurgler.
