Shipping charges and bad exchange rate make it worse here.

Picked up a 7’9” Shakespeare Wonderod Sunday for $45. Like brand new. That afternoon qualified it with a frisky 12” bass. Life still great! YPJ

Nice!

Is there a model number on the rod?

I have one of those newer fangled, high tech rods and I agree with Ed.

It's a great rod. It casts and fishes well. I just don't know if that warrants the price tag that was on it.

I don't think that I will ever again shell out any decent amount of money for a pre-fabbed rod.
I am now content on crafting my own, either graphite, fiberglass, or bamboo.

Agree.

I've got an Orvis Helios 3...and it's a helluva rod. Zero qualifications there...except price.

It is not, and will never be, 3X better than the TFO Axiom II I bought within weeks of it. It's not even close to 2X better, and I'd have been miffed had I paid full $$$ for the H3 (I got it for about 1/2 retail).

The one thing I absolutely have to give it credit for...and I can't speak to why, only report results...is that the H3 absolutely, 100%, lives up to the accuracy claims Orvis makes...at least in 8 wt., H3F form. Am I compensating? Maybe...but I doubt that's a factor after a day of chucking pike and musky flies.

I don't think I've ever paid over $200 for a rod. I paid that for my 2nd rod, a Sage RPL that I was convinced would make me a better caster....it didn't. It's a decent nymphing rod.

Two other times I've approached that mark, both at GOTC auctions. Both times I could have gotten a much better deal than I did if it weren't for Fred Bridge and then Tony Delaney purposely bidding up the price on both rods. Fred was one bid away from owning a 6 wt. Dan Craft rod he didn't want. I believe Tony donated that rod. The other was an LL Bean Pocketwater rod. It was donated by Jack and Tony knew I wanted it. I think I paid full retail minus $10, but it was worth it. I love that rod....I love how it casts, I love that it was donated by Jack and I laugh each time I think about Tony bidding.
