HMH has got a new vise on the market, starting on Friday, the 24th of Nov. It's full rotary and looks kinda like the LAW vise, at least in concept. I got an email inviting me to order one, and in the "Spartan" level, it's not extremely spendy compared to say, a Renzetti Master. I think I'll pass, but it looks like a very nice full rotary vise.

I gave it a look but did not see the price. What is the asking price for this new vise?

I'm not good enough to own a $500 vise. Heck, I may not be good enough to own a $50 vise.

My tying has moved to a place where I tie big stuff (bass, pike and musky) and I buy the small stuff.

Some of my stuff I could tie with a C-Clamp...

...all but two of those have caught fish...I'll let you guess...

I'm with you. If I have even paid that for a vise ($50), it was because I bought it at one of our GOTC auctions.

When I was 16, my dad bought me a 1933 Chevrolet coupe with 91,000 miles on it - it cost $50. cash in US currency....it was a year older than I.
I know times have changed, but nonetheless, $500 for a fly-tying vise seems crazy. Such funds would provide 5 bottles of Lagavulin or 10 of Highland Park 12.
Some folks need to get their priorities in line.

If I didn't already have a great vise, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I like vises, which is no indication of my tying ability.

And $50 when Bux was 16 would buy you a small house today.

Gene: Do you realize how many flies you can buy for $500?

I like tying flies. I've spent a whole lot of money on pursuing this hobby. Can't put a $$$$ value on something you like.

After all, for the price of a fishiing rod, reel, line, waders, etc. you can buy a whole lot of fish.
