Hope everybody has a happy and prosperous 2018.

I wish everyone a happy and healthy new year. Lot's of accent on the healthy. You folks are all getting on in years and I'd like for you all to hang a round a few more years.

Looking forward to all sorts of things for 2018:

Beloved grandson ( our Prince) thinks that he has "found the Princess" that he will share his life with. Her credentials are more than acceptable - solid family lines, very good schools, excellent class standing and now highly regarded as a proficient, English teacher. Actually, that's a carbon copy of his maternal grand mother....without the damned Irish/Welsh baggage. (my Donna will not see this evaluation)
Being a Grandparent is the best of all worlds...front row seats, respect, tolerance and patience when we offer our suggestions.
i.e. The Grandmother has just read this over my shoulder, and I received a gentle pat on the head...just like our dog gets when she nuzzles us.

Ain't love grand?

My grandsons are too young to be set just yet, but at least one, Coley's boy, Lee Boy, will almost certainly be a farmer. I never thought any of mine would do that, but I think Lee's set on it. How many other 11 year olds would be thrilled to get a high grade, framed photo of a John Deere harvester doing its work for Christmas?

(Actually, framing is a pretty complex operation. The kid best plan on several years at Virginia Tech.)

I'm confused as to whether Lee Boy will be a farmer or a framer....I'm guessing farmer.

Westmoreland County has had a number of farmers and framers...Washington, the Lees...

As well as many different kinds of framers...

Thank God there are still some who want to be farmers. It's one of the highest stakes gambling around depending upon some factors you can control and many you cannot. I graduated from an ag school and learned to appreciate how difficult the course of study really is for those so inclined.
