For no good reason I just recalled a framed needle-point that hung over the fireplace in a dairy farmer's home in Clinton Corners, NY.
"Keep the smartest boy on the farm and let the others study law.".

Whoever made the needlepoint probably knew that it takes more brains to properly run a dairy farm than it takes to practice law. On a side note, why do they call it 'Practicing Law' don't they ever become proficient enough to be considered to not be practicing any more?

Was that farmer in Clinton Corners an English immigrant named Henry H. Harper, by any chance? His farm was where my hunting buddies and I shot woodchucks in the summers in college. We called ourselves "The 'enry 'h 'arper 'unting Club."

Rancid,
No, the dairy farmer was the father-in-law of our Lutheran Pastor...if I could remember the family name I'd post it here. There was a daughter and two sons in that family. The daughter married our minister and the two boys wandered off and sold the farm...dairy farming is tough and demanding work and neither son was tough enough to carry on the farm. The daughter in the family was the one with the backbone and toughness to get things done.
The minister that married into that family was the man that led me into fly fishing and away from the, up until then, my very effective drifting, earth worm techniques. :D :D :D :D Bux

I'm glad I wasn't the smartest.
