...she often cannot tell you where her phone is...

Well Kudos to her. Hang in there dad.

When my son was in Tucson I worried more about him there than when he was deployed. He was always off on some junket, talking about the rattlesnakes they'd find while spelunking in old mines, etc., or the time the ranger came upon their camp and told them they might want to move further away because that was a trail used by the smugglers coming out of Mexico. ay-yi-yi!

As for the phone, don't worry about that either. It's the same old story with kids that are into outdoor stuff. Who in the heck wants one of those things going off when they are on some grand lark.

I'm always getting chewed on by my wiser half for not having the cell phone with me or turned on when I get back from a day fishing or shooting.

Ron, thanks...I'm not worried about her at all (other than the normal parental level of worry). She's level headed and makes great decisions...she's smarter than I'll ever be, if I were to live to be 150.

On the phone thing: I'm actually pretty proud of her on that. Most young folks her age can't be away form their phone for 10 minutes without having an anxiety attack...she can go days without looking at hers...

Very cool indeed, FN.

Living in Missouri, I've done a lot of spelunking in my younger days. That's mainly because of the abundance of caves we have in the state.

I've only done ice climbing like that a couple of times. Albeit, when I was quite a bit younger and in quite a bit better shape.

Those crampons look about the same as we used, but those ice axes look pretty hi-tech.
And I wouldn't even venture a guess as to what climbing rope is standard these days.

Looks like she knows what she's doing. Two thumbs up.

FN - very cool...thanks for posting this. Great to see young folks really living and rising above the world around them!
