I am in search of a copy of Harry Middleton's Starlight Creek Angling Society. Does anyone have a copy? Please don't look at Amazon to see if they have a copy, they do. I don't want to buy one, I just want to read it carefully, so as not to dog ear a page.

I got to thinking about that and since I really enjoyed "The Earth is Enough" figured I'd try and find a used copy of that. It must really be a rare one. On Amazon it was around 2 grand. On Alibris I found a couple of copies for about $1100. Yikes!!! I could find a nice used paperback of the Earth book for 99 cents.

I have a feeling that I won't be reading about the Starlight Angling Society anytime soon.

I'll have to content myself with reading about The Madison Avenue Rod, Gun, Bloody Mary and Labrador Retriever Benevolent Association, The Lower Forty and Stories of the Old Duck Hunters.

Doug, while my post was mostly tongue in cheek, I'd dearly love to read that book. If you find it maybe we can work out some assurances for it's safety. Let me know.

Why are used copies of this book so expensive? What is the book about?

Cocaine, teenaged sex, and Led Zeppelin.

Yes, something like that. I don't know for sure, haven't read it yet.

Actually, I think it's a story about fly fishing in the Ozarks. It must be a good work of fiction.
There is no good trout fishing in the Ozarks. I should know...I grew up there.

It's about a boy, an old Indian, and the boy's grandfather...its part of Middleton's Earth is Enough saga.

Middleton was one of the great fly fishing writers. At one time I imagined myself to be a mediocre fly fishing writer. Then Harry Middleton lost his job as a writer at Southern Living magazine and ended up dying as a garbage man. Took the wind completely out of my sails. If Middleton couldn't make a living as a writer, I knew I'd have to pay people to read my stuff. In my mind, Middleton and Ruark were my favorites. I owe Harry. He saved me from embarrassing myself.

As a writer, I've discovered I'm a pretty good engineer.
