schlamperei

Insouciant efficiency.

We've all met many whom, to our dismay, made a life long career of same.

That would bother Finnish German Lutherans. I rather prefer my political leaders and bureaucratic regulators to be committed schlamperi.

Mr. Gilmore, You are behind the updates from 23 & Me. The in depth study of the DNA reports just a bit over 32% Finnish. Then there is a mix of Northwestern European, with British, Irish, Scandinavian...my wife insists that also includes Polish. But! the big kicker is that I have more Neanderthal genes than 93% of those today walking the earth upright and not dragging their knuckles.

Don't tell your brother. If he discovers he's less than a quarter Finn, he might flip out.

I've given my younger brother the details of my DNA findings....he is convinced, and I suspect rightfully, that those genetic figures have nothing to do with his. I also suspect that he is correct since we are so very different...and have been since our separate childhoods.
John is not a risk-taker, he never drove vehicles fast or recklessly and he was ultra-cautious about just about everything. He's responsible. reliable and tends to be boring.

Ed, I'd bet your brother won't take the test. It's a risk, taking those tests.

Doug,

My brother still hasn't tried any of the several DNA programs now available and I'd guess he hasn't any intention to do so. Having a curious streak, that I think most here have,* is not an inherited trait. That said, I'd guess that we fly fishers as a whole are curious beings....just one peek into our fly boxes should tell that we think "out of the box" by nature.

I'm not sure how much faith I would put into one of those home DNA kits.
While fairly accurate, they are still fallible..
As time goes on, and technology gets better, I think their accuracy will increase. Especially if there is money to be made.
