Did any of you know each other before the old VFS?

I didn't know any of them.

I first met Doug Gilmore at a fly fishing show in Charlotte, NC. We had corresponded briefly on the internet a few months prior to that on a fly fishing web-site. Doug and his son showed up in Charlotte...we had a Thai dinner downtown, and that was it. As a result of that brief meeting, we planned a "get-together" in North Carolina with a few others. We ended up in the NC mountains for a weekend of trout fishing with a small gang, and away we went.

I still don't know any of you.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

That's the safest stance to take.

Definitely not. First person I ever met face-to-face was Colston after I moved to Virginia. We met each other in Fredericksburg and went fishing for a weekend. My kids, who were still quite young, asked me who I was fishing with. When I told them it was Colston they asked, "Where do you know him from?" I replied, "The internet." Then I said, "Don't you ever do what I'm doing."

I first got connected with Colston on the old Flyanglersonline.com bulletin board. I think I even worked out a trade for a fly rod with him on that board. That's where I learned of the GOTC board. I first met any of you folks in the flesh at Carlisle, Pa in 2008. I also went to Big Butte in 2009 and the Western GOTC that Brad Morgan put together in 2010 in Colorado. I was also at the 2016 GOTC in Va. I was inducted into OOPS by Ed Kelleher and Fred Bridge 2010.

Other than that I don't know ya'll either. Your secret identities are safe with me.

How true. Noah was getting on in years, but I think I recall fishing with him on a trip JD had booked.

For a older Jewish guy, he was still fairly agile - but he talked like he was raised in the south Bronx, and, we weren't permitted to fish on Saturday...until after sundown...ship's rules I guess.

Greg, my wife asked me if there was any difference between internet dating and GOTC.
