Cooking my first-ever turkey. My son Matt's family is visiting for the week, including grandkids aged 4 and 2. Dinner at my sister's with 18 relatives. A big and very nice day! Hope you all have a great day!

Broke tradition, had ham. It was great. Shared with brother, sis-in-law, both daughters, one son-in-law, one grandson, and one step grandson. Granddaughter due any day now. It was a good Thanksgiving. Hope you all fared as well.

Susan is in Albuquerque with our daughter and son-in-law. So the rest of the fam came to the house. Tyler cooked Cornish hens - awesome. I made dressing and green bean casserole. Brad and Christa made mac and cheese, plus pecan and pumpkin pies. Great! Everyone left at 3. I cleaned up, sat down and fell asleep.

Once again, Donna and I joined the McDonald Clan for the Thanksgiving dinner. The clan has grown well beyond any members' home, so it was once again held in the activities center of a Charlotte Park...about 70 attended, including the kids. I'm not crazy about the program, but I'm an "outlaw" in-law ... and, the food is diverse and good...that's a rarity for those of Scottish blood.(I only know of one other).
Getting home early gives time to reflect on Thanksgivings past.
Grandma and Mom cooked and Grandpa carved. Mom made the mince and apple pies and grandma made pumpkin and huckleberry pie for me. My father said the blessing. Often there were uncles and aunts at the table, but never a herd of relatives. When it was our turn, the minister came...and we held for the long grace.
No wine, but apple cider we pressed earlier and stored in the stone cellar.
Just memories now, but they are carved in stone.

I hope everyone had as good a Thanksgiving as I did. I got up at 0530 and went pheasant-hunting with Number Two Son Matt, my hunting buddy Jeff, and his Brittany, Bing. We stayed out all morning; came back with a bird apiece. Jeff and Bing then stayed over for dinner, we ate till we hurt, and we sent them home with turkey for sandwiches (Jeff is a bachelor.)
It was a fine day, and one I'll remember.
