Another caution - A friend of mine turned 60 a few weeks back. For his birthday his brothers bought him a bottle of 25 or 30 year old Laphoaig (sp) which I can't even pronounce.

He opened it at this birthday party and offered a taste to all of us. I got enough to taste and told him that was enough because I didn't want to drink his expensive scotch.
Thank God I did, it was like drinking the runoff from a campfire.

So not only might the expensive scotch not be real, it might just taste bad.

It is spelled Laphroaig, and it is a very good Islay, single malt...which will have a noticeable amount of peat smoke and oak in the taste and the nose. They've been producing their whisky since 1815 and they are still at it, which indicates that they have a loyal following. Their reasonably priced "Quarter Cask" is a good one. There are a number of fine Islay, single malt whiskies on the market and prices range from reasonable to very expensive. You might also say that there is a learning curve in their appreciation.
Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Lagavulin, etc.
If you want to start easy, try Highland Park.

Bux

P.S. It is pronounced Le-froyg

Bux, le-froyg? Are you sure it isn't French :?:

There are a ton of people who swear by Moscato, Bud Light, and Spam.

I encourage more people to hate Scotch and Bourbon. They're disgusting. Drink Vodka and Mr. Boston Gin. That's the good stuff. Highland Park, Laphroaig, Aberlour, Talisker, Caol Ila, and Lagavulin are disgusting. Elmer T. Lee, George T. Stagg, William Larue Weller, and Sazerac suck.

I'm with Doug on this one. Don't encourage folks to drink that horrible stuff. They should go for the sweet pleasing taste of Bailey's or RumChata. Bourbon is especially bad. It is made of rotten corn for crying out loud..

Drinking fine scotch is like having a good dog by your side. Both make you extremely happy.
