Thanks FN, I was hoping that you would reply with your preference on bigger rods.

That grip in your picture looks like one of those Winn grips.
Winn made golf grips for years and now also make grips for fishing rods.
Some people seem to really like them. Other's have said that the grips have not aged well.
Winn doesn't give up much info when it comes to the material of their grips.
They call it a "polymer"....which is engineering speak for "some kind of plastic or rubber".
They also have patents on at least some of it.
That also looks like one of Alps tri-reel seats.
Top notch stuff. Bullet proof.

And I can see your point about the rear grip for the figure-8s.

FN, those grips are what I thought were carbon grips. I've seen them, but never held one. They look like the ticket for big rods.

Brian,

It may be a styrene-butadiene copolymer or something of the sort. Those are synthetic rubbers. I’m sure you can get them in various durometer ratings to suit your purpose.

I've had it since early this season, really like it so far.

No signs of wear yet.

I can ask what they are, or get closer pictures if you'd like.

That think almost looks like a golf club grip. I don't fish big tackle like that (my largest rod is a rarely-used 8 wt).

Cork is it for me, though I know it's become more difficult for makers to source good cork.
